How Does it Work?

The Dance Co-Op Video Competition is an online dance competition that is structured similar to live events, without having dancers and guests gather together. It was born out of the mass competition cancellations in the spring of 2020 so that dancers and their studios wouldn't have to suffer shorter competition seasons due to the mass outbreak of the novel COVID-19 virus.

For each online competition, everything will still take place like a live competition, except for competing in person. Instead, videos of routines either taken in the dancers studio, or from a previous stage event will be uploaded and submitted with an entry form. Quality of the video will not be a part of the score. 3 judges with experience in the industry will evaluate and judge these routines, assigning them a color score, just like you are used too. Every dancer will still get a pin for their routine. At the end of the competition period, the routines with the highest scores in every category will be ranked the overall winners. Overalls will still get awards/trophies, solo titleists will still get crowns/shirts/goodies, and special awards will still be given out.

Awards will be live streamed on the Friday 2 weeks after the deadline week. Physical awards will be mailed to your studio. Judge's awards or anything that can be sent by document will be emailed for you to be able to print on your own before the event, plus you'll receive digital award logos for winning routines that your studio can display on their website or for dancers to place on social media. It is recommended (but not necessary) to hold a small event for your dancers at your studio during the live-stream where you can give out awards to your dancers as they are called on the live stream. This will make the experience as close to a face to face competition as possible.

You will get real scores and real feedback from judges as well to prepare for upcoming live competitions (once they continue). Entry fees are $10 per dancer per group routine, $20 per solosist, and $30 for title soloist. These fees are just to cover the costs of the physical awards + shipping. We wish everyone a safe and happy competition season and can't wait to be a part of helping that happen!
